About Emily Clarke

Exercise Physiologist. Data nerd. Cat mom to a DEXA-scan-named feline.

Emily Clarke, exercise physiologist and founder of BodyCompCheck

Hi, I am Emily

I ran the body-composition testing program at a high-end Portland fitness studio for four years. DEXA scans, Bod Pod tests, countless skinfold measurements. I watched members celebrate 5-pound scale gains that were actually muscle. I watched others panic over 3-pound losses that were just water.

I left to build free tools that teach people what their numbers actually mean. No upsells. No shame. Just data, context, and the occasional rant about why BMI is the old shortcut.

Personal Life

I live in Portland, Oregon with my partner Alex, our cat DEXA (yes, really), and a wedding Pinterest board I claim is just for research. I deadlift on Saturdays and drink too much coffee on Tuesdays. I believe progress photos tell a better story than any scale ever will.

Why I Built This Site

Because I was tired of watching smart people feel stupid about their own bodies. Because your body fat percentage is not a grade. Because muscle mass matters more than weight. Because knowledge is self-compassion.
